Cohort I member Greenlid Envirosciences takes home national innovation award

Next, they set the stage to launch two new products in 2019.

December 21, 2018 – Cohort I member Greenlid Envirosciences is excited to announce that they’ve been awarded a $10,000 Arthur J.E. Child Innovation Award from the Ernest C. Manning Awards Foundation!

The Foundation presented co-founders and brothers Morgan and Jackson Wyatt with the award due to the environmental impact and global health benefit of their first innovation, Greenlid, the Compostable Compost Bin. Greenlid makes composting easier with its water-resistant, recycled cardboard-based container that eliminates the need for messy and smelly compostable bins and bags.

“It is an enormous honour for Greenlid Envirosciences to win the Arthur J.E. Child Award for Innovation, especially around the quality of other winners and in particular, the quality of nominees in this year’s pool,” said co-founder Morgan Wyatt.  “We never dreamt that when we were trying to find a solution to messy compost that we would stumble across a technology that could have such an impact.”

Since its launch in 2014, the Greenlid has prevented more than 12 million kg of organic waste from the landfill, preventing over 2.5 million kg of CO2 equivalents from reaching the atmosphere. Its leak-proof technology was then adapted to create a biodegradable mosquito trap that was used during the Zika crisis in Brazil and the Rio Olympics to protect Canadian athletes. It is currently being used around the globe to combat mosquito borne illness.

For the next two years, Greenlid Envirosciences will be focused on product development – with two new consumer products set to launch in 2019 that use its patented leak-proof formulation. This includes Biotrap, their biodegradable mosquito trap, and Greensift, a biodegradable and disposable sifting kitty litter system.

“We’re excited to announce that in 2019, we will have successfully registered Biotraps for sale in over five countries, and will be expanding very rapidly into India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Brazil and the U.S.,” said Morgan. “We have set up partnerships with major retailers and non-government organizations so we can have a broad impact in these regions. We are all excited for the next stage of Greenlid Envirosciences!”
